The global climate emergency is both an ecological crisis as well as an economic, social, and political crisis that particularly affects the most vulnerable and marginalised people in our societies. With the European Green Deal, the European Union has set out to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, all while promoting economic growth, human health, and the conservation of nature. In order to ensure a fair transition to a green society for all and prevent socio-economic inequalities from being exacerbated, the European Commission has vowed to leave no-one behind in this large-scale undertaking.

ACCTING is a 40-month research project that aims to contribute to the success of the Green Deal programme with a range of research activities on how to avoid and reduce the unequal effects of both climate change and of the emerging policy responses to climate change, in differing local and national contexts. In addition, ACCTING aims to identify, promote, and learn from the inspiring changes that are happening on the ground, often with the initiative of marginalised groups and younger generations.

The project runs in two cycles, with concrete solutions proposed after each cycle in the form of recommendations to policymakers and other stakeholders, pilot actions, and research agendas to further increase knowledge on the impact of Green Deal policies on inequalities.

Yellow Window is one of the twelve consortium members, involved in all work packages and is responsible for one of them: the translation of research results into ideas for solutions through the innovative methodology of the Open Studios.
